KIOSK II, inveted to the special exhibition 'Sculpture Cologne', Art
Cologne 1998 began when the main object, the Kiosk, along with prints,
videos and technologies were transported to the hall. Waiting in the
back of the van for the rain to let up, the driver was curious about
what we were up to. During that dialogue it became clear we needed a
precarious floor and a spread of wooden palettes would do that. The
driver offered to help and the next morning heaps of soggy palettes
collected and 'liberated' i suppose from various sites around Cologne
awaited us in our installation space at the hall. Once the floor was
set, the 'Black Sea Diary', Arctic Circle' and 'ØtherLands' zones or
islands took on form and visitors navigated this space between precarious
reality and an equally precarious virtuality became the sculpture.
