London
Canada show
In a Mauerkrankheit (Wall sickness) vein, I collected wood refuse, old wire spools, chairs, a ladder, and using concrete, sometimes barbed wire, I chiselled some 'heavy' frames for Cibachromes made in Berlin on commission by the Berlinische Gallery to mark the city's 750th anniversary. There were 4 photographers from the 4 occupying powers invited. Although Canadian, the Berlin senate and the project sponsor, Hans Eberhard Stahl, had typical Berlin cynicism enough to ask me to represent the USA for this documentary project. All works in this New York show were sold. The gallery presented Nan Goldin in the back room. The gallerist Timothy Greathouse died sadly some years later from AIDS.
